Polar Science Webcast #4 - Meet the Weddell Seal

Posted Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 00:03 EST by Diane

Classes are invited to attend Polar Science Webcast #4 - Meet the Weddell Seal.

You've met Dr. Hawke and Dr. Kanatous and 'visited' the Kanatous Lab at Colorado State University. Now it's time to focus exclusively on the Weddell seals. We know you've already learned a lot about the seals, but we're sure you still have questions you'd like answered. Please join us for one of the following sessions.

Date: Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009

Times: 8:30 - 9:30 PST / 9:30-10:30 MST / 11:30 - 12:30 EDT OR 10:45 - 11:45 PST / 11:45-12:45 MST / 1:45 - 2:45 EDT

We're going to start this webcast off a little differently than the previous ones. We're going to give you a chance to tell Dr. Kanatous what you know about the Weddell seal! Dr. Kanatous will discuss your summaries with you and then move on to a slide show about the seals. He will take your questions during the slide show.

In preparation we are asking you to:

  1. Send an e-mail to support@yesican-science.ca telling us which time suits you better.
  2. Choose one student to introduce your class.
  3. Make a class list of at least five things you've learned about the Weddell seal.
  4. Choose three students who will pick from your list to tell the group what you've learned.
  5. Choose several students with good keyboarding skills, who will type the questions your class comes up with into the chat window during the slide show.
  6. Choose several students who will come to the mic and ask those questions when we call on your class.
  7. Choose a couple of students who will answer the questions Dr. Kanatous may pose during the webcast.

This should be a pretty fast-paced webcast with lots of information! Come join in the fun!
